With this blog post, I wanted to take some time to share a little more about us and our vision for the future. We haven’t even been open a whole year yet, but it was about a year ago at this time that Alli and I left two great jobs with two great companies to chase our dream and launch Amalli Talli. And though it’s been far from easy….it’s already been an amazing journey.
In addition to being business partners, we are also sisters (maybe you guessed that?)! We have dreamed of this venture together for a long, long time, after going through the same struggles that many of you experience, and literally after years of planning and researching, it came time last summer to go all in. Given that she and I are each former collegiate volleyball players, we are naturally very driven to accomplish goals. I played for both the University of Texas and the University of Wisconsin, and Alli played her freshman year for Minnesota State, Mankato. So it's not surprising that we are big fans of women’s sports in general, and very much appreciate the lessons and work ethic that athletics has taught us over the years. Neither of us come from “fashion” backgrounds, but our love for it & our desire to make it achievable for tall women has helped us where professional training initially lacked. I actually came from more of the marketing/advertising world, and Alli was in corporate accounting. In August I’ll be celebrating my third wedding anniversary to my best friend & amazing husband (I know what you’re wondering….I am taller than he is…it’s fine, the world still spins) and Alli is getting married in less than a month to her high school sweetheart (maybe even middle school sweetheart). It’s been a super crazy summer! You’re welcome to follow us on our personal Instagram pages too – I’m at amy_amallitalli & she’s alli_amallitalli.
If there is one thing we quickly learned in the first few months it’s that tall is a niche, but there’s still not one standard body type that does justice for depicting every tall woman in the world. That’s evident when just looking at the two of us… I am 6’ 3 ½” and Alli is 5’10”, which are both “tall”… but there’s about 5”+ difference between us, so we have to really think about that when we are buying for the store. When we meet with vendors and browse their inventory, we try on and measure everything. And the rule of thumb it has to work for one of us to potentially make the cut. In our store, we see so many different body types on a daily basis and work really hard to find a variety of merchandise to work for all the variety of builds. So whether you shop in store or online, you will notice that there is a range of different items with different proportions, for that very reason. If we bought everything to fit me, most of it would be far too long for Alli. And if we used her as a guide, most things still wouldn’t be long enough for me. Therefore it makes sense to acknowledge the spectrum and try to buy for both ends of it. You also see us in most of the social media & product pictures for now – because it allows us to show the range.
There are so many ideas we have and so much we want to incorporate into our business in this next year. Our biggest and most important pursuit is adding in some of our own custom, private label pieces into the store which is incredibly exciting! It is still a bit of a work in progress so it’s not going to be something you see immediately next month, but certainly within the next year. Shirts, pants, maxi skirts & dresses, rompers, etc. Our vision for this company has always been to celebrate tall women and establish a company where we aren’t sacrificing style for length, and where tall women can shop easily without the struggle (& reminder) of not fitting the fashion world’s current prototypical body. And we hope to accomplish even more of that through our own unique designs. To that point, if ever there is something you would love to have and can’t ever find, send us a friendly note!
Thank you so much for your business and support and we hope you’ll be equally excited about what’s to come!
